Annual Report 2025

This year the SFISM is publishing its annual report in digital format only. The report showcases key themes that shaped the SFISM in 2025 and illustrates the key figures with clear graphics.

Foreword by Dr Urs Mäder, SFISM Rector

The SFISM defined key projects, initiatives and objectives for 2025 aimed at further developing the promotion of sport in Switzerland. It aimed to provide sought-after higher education and continuing professional development programmes, to strengthen applied sports science, and to actively transfer knowledge into the sports system.

Looking inwards, the focus was on strategic management, innovation and managing external funding, and reforming the Bachelor’s degree programme. Quality assurance in teaching, research and services, as well as trust-based collaboration, were further issues on which we concentrated.

Institutional quality is fostered through dialogue, a willingness to learn and a shared commitment to continuous improvement.
Wolfgang Ulrich, SFISM Head of Services

A particular highlight of 2025 was the 16th Annual Conference of the Swiss Society of Sports Science (SGS) organised by the SFISM in Magglingen in February. The theme of the event was ‘Knowledge transfer and sustainability in sports practice’. It looked at how findings from sports science can be better translated into practice and how sustainable approaches can be implemented in sport. Around 210 participants attended lectures, symposiums and panel discussions, and there was a networking event for young academics. In addition, several awards were presented to recognise outstanding academic work and knowledge transfer in sport.

This annual report highlights the SFISM’s key priorities in 2025. I hope you find this an enlightening read. Thank you for your interest in our institution.
