About SFISM

The SFISM is structured according to functions, with the Rectorate overseeing four sections plus two specialist services.

On 3 March 1944, the Swiss Federal Council authorized the then Federal Military Department (EMD) to set up a school for gymnastics and sport in Magglingen. The decision to make Magglingen the location for the school marked the start of a pioneering development that was to prove decisive for sport in Switzerland.

The public perception of SFISM today is determined to a large extent by the network of organisations with which it works closely, as a part of FOSPO, as a service provider for Swiss Olympic, and as an affiliated partner to the Bern University of Applied Sciences.

SFISM cooperates with numerous international partners in the field of sports science.

The International Relations Office encourages student and teacher exchanges and provides assistance to foreign students and teaching staff.

SFISM is located in Magglingen, a village lying at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level near the bilingual city of Biel/Bienne in the canton of Berne.
