Exercise Science

The group of Exercise Science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport conducts multi-disciplinary research in the field of talent identification, talent development as well as long-term performance development.

Trainingswissenschaften Talentselektion

Team members in the research group have experience in scientific research and development, scientific consulting for various national federations and teaching in Bachelor, Master and Coaching education programs for many years. They are internationally recognized experts in the fields of programming and monitoring training load as well as talent identification and development. Science support and consulting is offered to youth sport leaders, high-performance directors, coaches and athletes of sport federations affiliated with Swiss Olympic.

  • Close collaboration with Swiss Olympic in the field of talent identification and development
  • Continuous science support for the following national federations:
    • -Swiss Football Federation (SFV): consulting and support in talent identification (PISTE) and development (FTEM); ongoing projects: Play more football, Bio-banding
    • -Swiss Athletics Federation: Head coach ‘Running’, scientific consulting, programming and monitoring training load
    • -Swiss Swimming Federation: research and development, scientific consulting, monitoring training and competition load
    • -Swiss Skiing Federation: scientific consulting, performance analyses, research and development

  • Talent identification and development (i.e., relative age effect and biological maturation)
  • Programming and monitoring training and competition load
  • Long-term talent development in youth high-performance and elite sports
  • Development and evaluation of new game formats (i.e., Play more football, Bio-banding)
  • Injury prevention in Alpine skiing, Ski and Snowboard cross

Biological development in youth sport
