Studies

Over four semesters this Master's course teaches coaching science competencies as well as management and leadership skills.

The Master of Science in Sports with Specialisation in Elite Sports course enables you to expand your specialist and methodological skills. Your studies will focus on interdisciplinary, application-oriented research and development and its practical implementation in Switzerland's elite sports system.

Learning objectives

  • Latest finding in performance sport
  • Ability to apply these findings in one's own practice and develop them further
  • Application of sport and coaching science knowledge in practice

Management and leadership skills

  • Knowledge of the specific demands of management in elite sports
  • Knowledge of the tools available to meet these challenges
  • Ability to examine leadership tasks analytically, plan and implement them
     

Structure

1st and 2nd semesters

Compulsory «core scientific principles», «training science» and «sports management» modules.
Consolidation of areas studied, individual specialization in «coaching science» or «sports management»

3rd and 4th semesters

Work placement and Master's dissertation (in chosen specialization) 

The degree programme is intended to be a full-time course over four semesters. Its modular structure allows elite athletes to combine studying with their personal sporting careers or to study for a degree while continuing to work – more time to complete the degree is possible.

 

Degree & ECTS

The degree is equivalent to 120 ECTS credit points.

Successful graduates will be awarded one of the following degrees:

«Master of Science EHSM in Sports with Specialization in Elite Sport (Training Science)»

or

«Master of Science EHSM in Sports with Specialization in Elite Sport (Sport Management)»
 

Teaching languages

The course is taught in German, French and some in English. Students are expected to be sufficiently competent in both languages, As a guide, students should be competent to the following language course levels:

  • Goethe Zertifikat C1 for German
  • DALF C1 for French
