History of the SFISM	The history of the SFISM began in 1944 when the Federal Council established a gymnastics and sport school in Magglingen.

Service	Information on advisory services for studying at the SFISM, on combining studies and elite sport, as well as access to Ilias, the learning platform of the SFISM.
Staff and publications
SFISM Advisory Board	The SFISM Advisory Board advises the SFISM on important matters relating to studying, research & development and services.
SFISM Rectorate	Urs Mäder is the current rector of the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen SFISM, Walter Mengisen is co-rector.
Student internships	Student internships are available at SFISM in the Sports physiology, Monitoring and evaluation, Sports psychology, and Energy metabolism units.
Sports physiology (game sports)	The team supports the physical performance development of Swiss elite and emerging athletes in game sports through performance analyses and training recommendations.
Sports physiology (strength)	The Sports Physiology section currently supports the physical performance development of Swiss national teams across ten different sports requiring explosive strength. It uses a variety of performance tests, some of which have been developed in-house, to determine maximum and explosive strength, and derives training recommendations from the results.
Sports physiology endurance see Sports physiology (game sports)	The Sports physiology (endurance) section supports elite sport in Switzerland through its provision of practice-centred services, teaching and research and development.
Sports physiotherapy and sports massage see Sports medicine	Sports physiotherapy is a specialization in the treatment and prevention of general and overuse injuries sustained by athletes. Sports massage aims to aid muscular recuperation following sporting activity.
Sports technology unit	SFISM conducts applied research and development in the field of measurement technologies and data analysis in close collaboration with engineers from Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH. As its research and development activities focus on the needs of national high-performance sport, the latter benefits from the tailored services offered by SFISM.
Sports education	SFISM fosters sustainable educational practices. It produces scientific analyses and pedagogically sound recommendations on the theory and practice of physical education.
Sports medicine	Athletes have different risk profiles depending on their particular sport. If problems arise, they require a specific therapeutic strategy that will enable them to maintain their performance.
Sports psychology	Sports psychology is concerned with the attitudes, thoughts and behaviour of elite athletes. It seeks to explain and predict these, and also to alter and optimize them where necessary or desirable.
Sport facilities unit	The Sports facilities unit is a centre of expertise for building techniques and functionality, for commercial and spatial planning matters, and for the management and maintenance of sports facilities. It makes its knowledge available to both internal and external customers as well as to its partners.
Sports economics	SFISM is positioning itself in sports economics as well as in innovation and development in sport. In all three realms of teaching, research and services it focuses its activities on stakeholders confronted with the phenomenon of economization in sport.
