Admission requirements

To be admitted to the Bachelor's course, you must first pass a practical sports aptitude assessment.  

When registering for the practical sports aptitude assessment, you are required to provide evidence of the following qualifications/certificates:

  • Baccalaureate from a vocational/technical college or secondary school* 
  • Valid Y+S leader certificate
  • Up-to-date first-aid certificate from the Swiss Federation of Samaritans
  • Up-to-date «Brevet Basis Pool» lifesaving certificate from the Swiss Lifesaving Society (SLRG) **

* Before commencing the course, prospective students who have previously undergone only school-based education must show evidence of at least one year's experience of working in an occupation which enabled them to acquire vocational know-how in both practice and theory in a sports-related field. 48 working weeks at 40 hours per week, i.e. at least 1,920 working hours, are assumed. Occupations such as the following will be recognized:

  • Job in a sports shop or gym
  • Employment/appointment/activity as a coach or leader
  • Substitute teacher in schools
  • Elite athlete
  • Military, civil defence and civilian service

Military service (recruit school or refresher training), civil defence and civilian service also count as work experience. Time served will be credited as follows:

a) Military service: Periods of service spent at recruit school and/or attending refresher training will be credited in full using a factor of 1.5.
b) Civilian service and civil defence: The time served will be credited in full 1:1.

All forms of service must be officially certified and unambiguously relevant. Contact Study guidance if you have any doubts about whether an occupation may be eligible or not. 

** The «Brevet Basis Pool» must be no older than 4 years.

If it is not possible to supply all the evidence before registration, then at least official confirmation must be provided that the respective documents will be submitted by 31 July at the latest. 


Recognized equivalent qualifications


  • Primary school teaching certificate (Primarlehrerpatent)
  • Integrative secondary school certificate (Integrative Mittelschule IMSF)
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma with 32 out of 42 points excluding bonus points (in 6 separate general education subjects, of which at least three subjects at Higher Level (one of which must be a maths or science subject))
  • German higher education entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife)
  • Diploma from a VET/PET college


Not equivalent: 

  • College of further education, two or three years
  • Secondary school certificate (without baccalaureate)
  • Professional NCO in the armed forces

Prospective students resident in Switzerland
No other courses are equivalent, a Y+S leader certificate is mandatory. 

Prospective students resident abroad
The examination board will decide whether courses and qualifications are equivalent.


  • SRC nursing auxiliary (Pfleghelfer/-in SRK)
  • Registered nurse (Pflegefachfrau HF)
  • Health professional (Fachangestellte Gesundheit (FAGE))
  • Medical practice assistant (Medizinische Praxisassistentin (MPA))
  • First-aid certificate from Swiss Medical Corps (SSK)
  • Military paramedic
  • Military hospital staff
  • Rescue level 1 certificate for nonprofessionals (Laienzertifizierung Rettungswesen Niveau I)
  • Mountain guide training
  • Johanniter first-aid course (16-hour course)
  • PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support) Military first response

Not equivalent:

  • Emergency first-responder certificate (Nothelferausweis)
  • BLS-AED certificate from Swiss Federation of Samaritans


  • German lifesaving badge «DLRG-SILBER» 
  • Brevet igba PRO
