SFISM research Topic: Education and the Promotion of Sport

Through its practice-based research, the SFISM helps improve the courses offered in basic and continuing education within the sports sector. It refines evidence-based sports promotion programmes, improves educational quality in sport instruction, studies careers in sport, and develops teaching materials on ethics, inclusion and diversity.

The SFISM conducts research into the quality and impact of sports education: it examines the extent to which basic and continuing education for sports instructors (e.g. youth + sports, coach training) provides them with improved teaching skills. It analyses how this leads to more effective training programmes and better learning and performance outcomes for those involved in sport.

Working with partner universities, the SFISM defines the skills required for careers in sports management. On this basis, it draws up recommendations for educational institutions, students and employers. The research findings are incorporated into the training of PE teachers, coaches and sports instructors.
